Get Ready for Your Season of Creative Flow with Autumn Rituals

In this episode, we’re finally entering the final season of the year: The FLOW Season! We’re talking the AUTUMN EQUINOX and all the FLOW energy that comes with it. Autumn is the season when all of the things we’ve been building and working on throughout the year finally come to fruition.

The equinox is technically Saturday, September 23rd, 2023 at 2:50 AM, but since I’ll be sleeping, it’s tonight for me.

It’s harvest season, and that doesn’t mean PSL. It means completion of all your big projects. If you’ve felt like you’ve been struggling all year because things felt hard during summer, you’re not alone, and you’re not a failure. This is your season to finally FLOW.

“Fall is time for flow, and that’s when we just get into that flow season, that flow state really, really easily. It’s a time when we can accomplish things and really put the final touches on a project and it is also the culmination of a whole year’s worth of dreaming, magic, growing, and doing.”

Finishing Your Book this Autumn? You Need a Ritual for That.

As the air turns crisp and the leaves begin to drift down from the trees, I can’t help but feel a shift in my energy. The busyness of summer has passed, and now is the time for me to embrace the seasonal flow of autumn.

As an entrepreneur, author, and creative, this is the perfect opportunity for me to finally tackle that book I’ve been meaning to write.

Autumn is THE Flow season.

Seasonal Creativity

The seasons have different energy levels and vibes. Here’s what they are:

  • Winter: The Dream Season — When we’re feeling quiet and rejuvenating ourselves from the hustle of the year. We’ve worked really hard and as the days get shorter, our bodies are telling us to slow down, hibernate, and retreat.
  • Spring: The Magic Season — When we get that initial burst of energy and inspiration and start working on our favorite big projects with enthusiasm; we’re planting seeds and nurturing the seedlings.
  • Summer: The Grow Season — When we need a little break from the hustle of the Magic season and take some time to just let things grow more organically… A little effort here and there but for the most part, we’re just watering the grass.
  • Autumn: The Flow Season — When we get another surge of energy after refreshing ourselves during the Grow season. Those projects we started in the spring come back now with a vengeance and we often finish huge projects (or multiple smaller projects) during this time.

So by tapping into each of these unique seasons, we end up with less burnout and we actually succeed more at what we want to do.

Getting Into Your Flow with Autumn Rituals

You know, the autumnal equinox is such a pivotal point in the seasonal cycle for me. It falls on September 23rd this year, and that’s the day when the length of day and night are precisely equal, signaling that shift from the outward growth of summer to the inward reflection of autumn.

As an entrepreneur and writer, I find this transition to be a truly powerful opportunity. Because as the external demands on my time and energy start to wane, I can really turn my focus inward and tap into that wellspring of autumn creativity that just seems to flow so freely during this time of year.

Rituals for Renewal

One of the best ways for me to maximize this energy is by creating some personal autumn rituals and routines to help me mark the equinox. It could be something as simple as taking a mindful walk in nature, journaling about my hopes and intentions for the season, or even just setting up a cozy little writing nook in my home.

The key is to really infuse these rituals with meaning and intention. By taking the time to consciously acknowledge the changing of the seasons, I’m signaling to my mind and body that it’s time to shift gears. And that primes me for the productive, autumn creativity-fueled push ahead.

Embracing the Rhythms of Autumn

As the days grow shorter and the air takes on that crisp, familiar bite, I’ve definitely noticed a shift in my energy and motivation. But rather than fight against these natural cycles, I’ve learned to fully embrace them as part of my autumn rituals as an entrepreneur.

Morning Routines for Flow

One of the most powerful ways I do this is by revamping my morning routine. In the summer, I’ll admit I was more inclined to hit the snooze button a few too many times and just rush through my day. But now that autumn is here, I’ve learned to lean into those quieter mornings and really use that time for reflection and planning.

I start my day with journaling, meditation, or simply sitting in silence. This allows me to get centered and focused before diving into my to-do list. Research shows that this kind of mindful start can actually prime my brain for autumn creativity and productivity – something I’m definitely aiming for.

Cozy Rituals for Evenings

And just as I’ve adjusted my mornings, I’ve also created some lovely autumn rituals and routines around my evenings. As the sun sets earlier, I love to embrace the cozy indoor living that this season brings. I’ll light some candles, brew a soothing cup of tea, and carve out time for reading or other relaxing activities.

This helps me wind down from the day’s work and prepares my mind for a restful night’s sleep – which is absolutely crucial for fueling that autumn creativity I’m after.

Collaborating for Inspiration

Another way I like to harness the energy of autumn is by reaching out and collaborating with others in my creative community. There’s just something about the change of seasons that prompts a real desire for connection and shared purpose – making autumn an ideal time for me to get into some co-creation.

Autumn Celebrations and Events

One thing I love to do is host or participate in an autumn-themed event, like a writing retreat, a book launch party, or even just a cozy seasonal celebration. Not only does this provide a burst of autumn creativity and motivation for me, but it also helps me build those valuable relationships and partnerships that can be so game-changing.

Mastermind Groups and Accountability

I’ve also found that exploring or even forming a mastermind group focused on writing and publishing can be incredibly helpful during this time of year. Having that supportive community to share ideas, provide feedback, and hold me accountable is just huge as I work towards completing my book. It taps into that autumn creativity in such a powerful way.

Streamlining My Workflow

As I lean into my autumn rituals and routines, I always make sure to take a close look at my current workflow and identify any areas that could use some optimizing. This is the perfect time of year for me to trim the fat and really focus on the most essential tasks.

Prioritizing My Projects

The first thing I do is take a hard look at my to-do list and figure out what my top priorities are. I ask myself, “What projects or tasks are absolutely crucial for moving my book forward? And what can I delegate, outsource, or put on the back burner for now?”

Then I ruthlessly eliminate anything that isn’t directly contributing to my writing goals. It can be tough, but I know this is the best way for me to conserve my energy and attention for the most important work.

Streamlining My Processes

Next, I examine my current writing process and look for ways to make it more efficient. Are there any time-consuming steps I can automate or streamline? Can I batch certain tasks to avoid that constant task-switching that tends to drain me?

By optimizing my workflow like this, I’m able to maximize my autumn creativity and get more done in less time. And that leaves me with way more mental bandwidth to actually focus on the writing itself.

Embrace the Flow of Autumn

As the leaves drift down and the air turns crisp, I know I have a powerful ally in the changing of the seasons. By tapping into the unique rhythms and energy of autumn, I can unlock a wellspring of autumn creativity that’s going to propel my writing forward.

That’s why I make sure to fully embrace the autumn rituals and routines that resonate most with me. Whether it’s a peaceful morning meditation practice, a cozy evening writing routine complete with candles and tea, or even a collaborative autumn celebration with my creative community – I trust that the natural flow of this season is going to support me in finally finishing that book I’ve been dreaming about.

The time is ripe, and I’m ready to harness the power of autumn to make my writing dreams a reality.

My Top 3 Takeaways for this Episode

That means adjusting my morning and evening routines, creating cozy little rituals, and organizing/planning out any big projects I want to tackle – like finally writing that book I’ve been meaning to get to. I also try to connect and collaborate more with my creative community.
